FOGG Odyssey bio picture

Troy Floyd

I missed the 60's, American, hate cooked green vegetables but love the taste of a cheese and mustard sandwich, been to 20+ countries, once had a 6-figure salary but quit it to be happy.

Goals in life:

* Sail the Amazon River in my own man made boat from Ecuador to Peru

* Hike Norway on the pilgrimage trail from Oslo to the North for 1 month

* Travel the world by car or motorcycle for 2 years

* Expand my photography skills

* ...and buy a winning lottery ticket!

Think that sums me up pretty much!  In all honestly, I'm currently living in Quito, Ecuador.  After working long 12hr days, 7 days a week, chasing the wealth dream I finally decided it was time in my life to do something I'm passionate about, PHOTOGRAPHY and TRAVEL!

I will be adding daily posts and pictures to this site, as this site is merely to display my work and keep people informed of where I'm at and doing.  Sign up for my email feeds to get my posts delivered to your inbox.  It's the best way to keep informed!

So if you can't travel, then I invite you to through my website.  For all the ones that are...please look me up.

Forget Obligation Go Global...its my odyssey!

Photo Gear

The gear I use is listed below.  Most was bought new, some not.  I have a wish list for a few more lenses and would like to upgrade the camera one day.  My only handicap though is I travel all the time with this stuff and it takes up 1/2 my weight.  So although I could afford a few more things to my collection (that I would kill to to use) my bag can’t.  Still working and perfecting a perfect travel bag set up for me and will update this page when needed.

Canon EOS 5D

Canon EOS 5D

USED: Bought from a professional.  Had limited shutter exposures and was thoroughly cleaned and looked over before purchase.

Thoughts: Completely happy with this camera!  Great step-up from my old Rebel and is a great camera for low light shots.  The newer 5DII are out now but think I will wait a while before purchasing anything new as the market is flipping every 2 years on them.

Sigma 12-24mm Wide Angel

Sigma 12x24 Wide Angle

New: Purchased from B&H

Thoughts: With a full frame camera it will allow you 122 degree coverage.  Sharp lens and great deal for the money.  Great for landscapes and architectural shots.  I use it all the time for shooting in tight spaces like; temples, street shots and close ups.  When I can’t fit it in the view-finder I go to it!

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM

Canon 24x105mm

Used: Bought from a professional.  Thoroughly cleaned and looked over before purchase.

Thoughts: My “all-around” lens that I use.  IS is great and sharpness is overall excellent!    Stays on the camera 75% of the time and use it for street photography, people shots and anything else in between.

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

Canon 70-300mm

Used: Bought from a professional.  Thoroughly cleaned and looked over before purchase.

Thoughts: Light weight for a 300mm lens.  Priced great and when I need to get those animal shots from afar, this is what I use.  There are better lens for zooming but as a traveler I’m tight on space and this fits into my bag perfetcly with my other     lenses.

Thoughts: Haven’t gotten my real use out of this flash yet.  Need to buy some wireless transmitters and one more light to go with it.  It will do wonders to my portfolio and add lots of new a great detail to my work.  Lighting is the key to all photos!

LowePro SlingShot 200AW

Slingshot 200AW Camera Bag

New: Bought in a store in Springfield, MO, USA

Thoughts: I don’t like flagging myself as having a big camera but to be honest about it there is no stopping you once you have it out.  I like this bag for two reasons: 1) I can fit just about all my core camera gear needs into it and 2) When I want to shoot I just flip the bag around and bang I’m in business without ever having to take the bag off.  Sometimes I use the bag to brace myself (like a shelf) to help steady.  I found myself a while back not taking my camera out as much because it was to much of a hassle to get it out of a backpack, set it up blah blah.  I was missing shots because of my laziness (I know how bad) but this bag has helped me eliminate this.  Plus it fits inside my carry-on bag and still have room for other things.

Merlin PhotoBank Hard Drive and Card Reader 250gig

Merlin PhotoBank USB Drive 250gig

New: Bought at Duty Free Zone at airport in Dubai

Thoughts: Been looking for one these for a long while, as they are hard to find anymore.  I normally carry my laptop with me but on some trips I don’t want to pack it because it’s pointless without access to power and internet.  So I got one of these to offload pictures without needing a computer on hand.  It’s that or I buy 20 compact-flash chips to carry around.  At $100 a pop thats not really in the bag for me budget wise.

Seagate – FreeAgent Go 500GB External USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive

Hard Drive 500gig

New: Bought at Best Buy in Springfield, MO, USA

Thoughts: I have a couple of these.  I use one for back-ups and the other for crap files: music, videos, documents exc exc.  These are so cheap anymore and is a great way to add extra memory to your set up that doesn’t require much or external power.
