Sorry for not updating more often on this trip but the internet demons have been chasing me since I have been in Colombia. The last day and a half in Cali the internet was down at the hostel. I wasn’t too worried about it as we were leaving for Bogota soon and thought I could just catch up there. Lucy’s uncle has an apartment there and works for the Ecuadorian Embassy, in which we would be staying at while in Bogota. Was a really nice apartment and he treated us great but his internet only worked 10 minutes out of an hour for some reason.
We took a night bus from Cali to Bogota and it was actually on time, as it took 10 hours to get to Bogota from Cali with only a few stops along the way. The price was $28 USD and although bus tickets are cheaper in Ecuador the buses aren’t as nice as in Colombia. Freezing cold would be the best description of the buses in Colombia, as for some reason they like to keep it at meat-locker levels. So if you visit Colombia bring a jacket, not because it’s cold walking around but for the bus rides. You’ll thank me later for that little piece of advise and will regret it if you don’t bring something warm to wear on the long rides.
The first day in Bogota we didn’t do much other than walk around. We did go visit a Fernando Botero Museum, Colombia’s most famous artist. It was a nice museum and was surprised at the other works of art I seen there. They had some Dali, some Picasso paintings and a few other well know artists. I really like seeing the Botero paintings as it gave a whole new perspective on seeing “big” people. Made me wonder if his wife really was that “big.”
One of the best parts of the museum was that they allowed photos (without flash). Was surprised by this as most museums won’t let you do this. I find that some of the crappiest museums in Colombia get all paranoid about pictures and won’t let you take any, going as far as not letting you even take a purse in. More on this later.
Highlight for me though at the museum was a Black & White collection of photos from a photographer who went to Africa and the Middle East. His pictures are what I hope one day mine will be as they were all awesome (see photo below).

Can you tell which painting above is Pissaco and which one is Botero? I’ll give you a hint… Botero likes things to be big.
