I’m heading off to Bogota, Colombia by bus tonight. The cost of a one-way ticket was $70 per/person and it included everything, which is a relief as I don’t have to worry about the border crossing between Ecuador and Colombia. The route will be from Quito > Tulcan, Ecuador > Border Crossing Here > Ipiales, Colombia > Cali > Ibague > Bogota. Total time for the whole trip should take about 30 hours, give or take 10 hours as it’s Latin America.
I plan on staying 4 days in Bogota, 4 days in Medellin and then play it by ear from there. Maybe I’ll go up north for a few days and see Cartagena and would like to spend 2 days in Cali if possible. One thing for sure is that I don’t want to miss the Las Lajas Church in Ipiales on the border between Ecuador and Colombia. Awesome, awesome church that looks like it belongs in the Alps of Germany more than in Latin America. I hope to get some good shots there and at least one nice HDR photo. So will keep you posted on that, as I plan on seeing it on the way back.
I have about 15-18 days total to see what I can and want in Colombia. It’s time for me to do my visa run and last time I went to Peru for it, so figured this time why not Colombia. Highlights will be staying at the Ambassador’s house in Bogota. Lucy’s uncle is the Ambassador for Ecuador in Colombia and has invited us to stay with him while there. I hope as well to meet an old friend in Medellin that I got to know while in Peru, as well as Holly from MedellinLiving.com (she base jumps off buildings in Colombia…crazy crazy girl!).
By the time you read this I will be in Bogota. If anyone has any tips on good places to see, to photograph and or anything unique worth writing about, leave a comment and let me know. The stranger the better!!
