I’ve decided to start a new segment to this blog. I’ve been looking for new ways to add something daily to it besides just posts about me and what I have seen or did. I also been wanting to find a way to shoot more pictures here in Ecuador. One thing about Ecuador that I hate to admit is that you can’t just walk around anywhere with a big camera. Odds are (esp. at night) you’ll have it taken away from you (something that would make me cry for sure!). Shooting in groups is the best but isn’t always available to me, as I’m still looking for other photographers in the Quito area that would like to meet up every other week or so but haven’t had any luck with that yet. Shooting in the day time is best if alone but only in certain areas. I decided that I would take a couple weeks off from Spanish class (I’m paying so I can do that) and build a little stock photos up on what I thought up.
What I finally came up with is something simple, fun and lets me practice my Spanish more. I decided to shoot someone new everyday and post it on the blog as a daily photo. Most shots will be from the street of people walking by. Nothing fancy or technical involved but I will ask a few questions:
- What is your first name?
- What city are you from?
- What country are you from?
- What do you do?
- If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
- What’s your dream and why?
These basic questions will accompany each profile picture and think it adds a little info into the person being posted. It could be anyone from a business man walking down the street, to a woman selling fruits, a teenager walking his/her dog or a cop protecting the streets. Doesn’t matter who but all must possess something unique or interesting. This will help highlight the people I see everyday and inform people from other countries what people think, want, do or are.
I actually went out last week and spent an afternoon shooting people this way. In about 4hrs I was able to get about 7 people to pose for me (not as easy as I thought but I was being really selective that day). I was rather pleased at how well some of the photos came out and couldn’t wait to get started on posting them. I had a great day and found some unique people to shoot. To my horror though, the notebook that I wrote all the info down of all the people I shot…I lost somehow in the condo! I tore it up like crazy and was a mad man for a few hours looking for it. I had all these great people shots to post but no info on them…errr!
So I thought I just wouldn’t post these pictures to start but couldn’t get past the idea that a few of these were really good. So I said the hell with it and decided to start posting people shots now anyways and just try to remember the info as best as I could. The new title to the series will be called “Faces of Ecuador” and will be changed if to “Faces of Brazil” for example if I ever travel there. Love your feedback on this idea and if there is something more you’d like to see, ask.
Forget Obligation Go Global…it’s my odyssey
Faces of Ecuador: 001

- What is your first name: Can’t recall his name (sorry)
- What city are you from: He was from the jungle North-East of Quito
- What country are you from: Ecuador
- What do you do: Security Guard for a shopping complex
- If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why: I do remeber him saying that he would like to go to the USA for a few weeks and see some of his family that work there. They always tell him that America is awesome and has so much that he wanted to see it for himself.
- What’s your dream and why: His dream was to get married and have some kids. He wanted to start his own business of some sort in Quito but I can’t recall what he wanted to do.
FOGG Notes: He was the first person I asked if I could shoot a photo of and he was very excited about it. The strong jawline, uniform and stance all made for a great picture. As strong as this guy looked he did seem like a real gentle person. I can see him having a family soon one day and hope to shoot a picture of him in his new business someday.
