FOGG Odyssey bio picture

Troy Floyd

I missed the 60's, American, hate cooked green vegetables but love the taste of a cheese and mustard sandwich, been to 20+ countries, once had a 6-figure salary but quit it to be happy.

Goals in life:

* Sail the Amazon River in my own man made boat from Ecuador to Peru

* Hike Norway on the pilgrimage trail from Oslo to the North for 1 month

* Travel the world by car or motorcycle for 2 years

* Expand my photography skills

* ...and buy a winning lottery ticket!

Think that sums me up pretty much!  In all honestly, I'm currently living in Quito, Ecuador.  After working long 12hr days, 7 days a week, chasing the wealth dream I finally decided it was time in my life to do something I'm passionate about, PHOTOGRAPHY and TRAVEL!

I will be adding daily posts and pictures to this site, as this site is merely to display my work and keep people informed of where I'm at and doing.  Sign up for my email feeds to get my posts delivered to your inbox.  It's the best way to keep informed!

Lessons learned while traveling…

Went to Mindo last weekend and promised more about it.  The below pictures are from the same resort where I took the night shot of the moon from the post “Mindo in the Moonlight.”  It really was a nice little spot to eat at and made a unique dinning experience.  For such a small little resort there are a ton of opportunities for pictures here.  I wasn’t expecting it and only got a small amount of shoots that night but if I ever return I will be sure to go back and have round-two there.

I had a good time in Mindo for the weekend but messed up big time in the budgeting.  I had only $50 with me when I left Quito but brought my credit card to get some money at an ATM while there.  I meant to get some before I left Quito but forgot and wasn’t to worried about it, as I assumed they would have ATM’s plenty at a tourist spot.  Assuming is the mother of all f*ck-up’s and I paid the price for it.  We got there and found a hotel with our own private bungalow for $30 per night (kind of steep for Ecuador but it was nice).  Went tubing that day for $5 per person and by the time we went to eat that night at the resort I was low on money.  So I tried to use Mindo’s only ATM (1 is all they had!) and it wouldn’t work.  Nothing worse then knowing you have money but can’t get to it.

So it pretty much cut our trip to Mindo short, as we had to have at least $5 for the bus ride back to Quito (where they have real ATM’s and love gringo credit cards).  So all we got to see and do was the tubing of the river Sat afternoon as by the time I got to Quito I had only $0.78 left.  Lesson learned and was such a rookie mistake but sometimes it happens…after all its travel not vacation and you just have to take it in stride.
